Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

The best tamales I had in decades. Better than my grandmother's and aunts. Usually restaurant tamales aren't good but these are moist, meaty and have a really good masa mixture. I can't wait to visit Grand Island again. I'll have these to look forward to every time hopefully.

I had to write a quick review this place...I found it just like every other yelper did, and I too was skeptical bc the lack of reviews like one of the other Yelpers wrote. Let me just tell you, this place is the REAL DEAL! It's as authentic as being in Mexico! I had a few different things (see pics) and ALL WAS SLAMMING!!!! After eating in the restaurant I went over to the bakery side where as soon as you walk in you're slapped in the face with a killer aroma of baked goods....Needless to say I grabbed some sort of Mexican pastry there and it was good as well. If I am ever in this neck of the woods again I'll stop by here for sure!

Mmmmm love coming here to satisfy my taco cravings. I'm from Santa Ana, CA plus I'm mexican so I'm a mexican food snob. This place is pretty great. Haven't tried the other things on the menu but the tacos are delicious! I really wish they had horchata.

(The first part is about the restaurant that's attached to the bakery.) So I walk in one day, take a look at the menu, and decide that I want the Camarones a la Diablo (literally "Devil's Shrimp). I order it, and she tells me I can't have it because it's too hot for me. Now I'm thinking she's saying that it's too hot for take-out because it'd burn my hands as I walked back to my office, but turns out she's saying it's too spicy. After I assure her over and over again that it'd be okay, she shakes her head and finally starts making my order. I didn't say this, but I'm thinking: Girl, have you seen Asian people eat spicy food? So anyway, while she's cooking, I head over to the bakery/store section to buy some spices and baked goods. They've got a pretty solid selection. But then again, so does every Mexican store in town. The one thing that sets La Mexicana apart is that they have good in-house tortillas (which you can also buy in various stores around town). Now I know you're all just anxious to hear about how my food turned out. It was wonderfully delicious and not at all as spicy as I'd expected. In Western gastronomy, it'd probably be categorized under "extra spicy," but in true Asian restaurants, it'd be "medium spicy." Anyhow, I'll be back. And she better not give me the "it's too spicy for you" speech again. :)

This is a bakery that I probably should go into but I'm too busy with my knucklehead stuff. In the mean time I gotta Yelp about their fabulous tortillas. In the olden days GI had its own brewery, ice house, 2d largest horse trading market in the nation, largest sugar beet factory outta GW in Colorado, yada yada yada. But this place is a tortilla factory and like all the other stuff right under your nose you don't realize it. I was at the Hy-Vee and they had a big tortilla sale. Who knew making tacos was a big Super Bowl thing? I haven't made mexican food at home since I was a kid and it was the whole Ortega mess. I made a breakfast burrito for myself, like I seen on the Travel Network, and OMG the tortillas were like incredible fresh floury heaven-sent white angels... I'm talking about tortilla Heaven, I don't know if you can get em in your town but these are fresh goddamn tortillas NB I uploaded a photo in case you want to locate in a store, as well as the "factory" which I think looks kinda cool for an old downtown

Every time I go in here I always get Al Pastor tacos. I don't live in GI so I've only been here a handful of times. But I will say that everything else that I've seen people order it looks so good. They also offer a chips and salsa bar so you make your own salsa. It's a ways off the interstate but well worth it.
